ASHES 2 EMPOWERMENT MARCH

Ashes to Empowerment March

The Ashes to Empowerment March is more than a walk it is a movement of hope, healing, remembrance, and unity. Created by domestic violence survivor Merenia Karetai my self the march gives a voice to survivors of domestic violence, family harm, sexual abuse, child abuse, and all forms of trauma. It is a place where survivors, whānau, friends, and supporters can stand together, knowing they are not alone. Our vision is to create a safe and inclusive event that raises awareness, encourages healing, and inspires change within our communities. Every step we take honours those who have survived, remembers those we have lost, and supports those who are still finding the strength to begin their healing journey.

The day will feature meaningful moments that reflect healing, culture, and remembrance, including:
- A powerful fire performance by Stargazer NZ, symbolising transformation, resilience, and rising from the ashes.(Andrew Martin)
- A kohatu release, where stones become symbols of letting go, remembrance, strength, and new beginnings.
- A moving kapa haka performance by He Waka Tapu Kapa Haka, celebrating culture, identity, and resilience.
- Live music from People of the Pā, bringing people together through waiata and connection.
- A five-minute silence to honour and remember every person whose life has been taken by domestic violence, family harm, or suicide.

The Ashes to Empowerment March is about turning pain into purpose. It is about reclaiming our voices, restoring our mana, and standing together so future generations can live free from violence and fear. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, we believe healing is possible. Together, we rise. Together, we remember. Together, we create change.

One voice can start a conversation. Thousands of voices can change a nation.
